NOTE: The Minutes of the WPSA reflect the following history of the Women and Politics Award. The award was created at the April 3, 1976 Meeting of the WPSA Executive Council as "The Award for Best Research by or about Women in Politics." The award carried this title when it was first given in 1977. By 1978, however, the title had become the "Women and Politics Award." Subsequently, in 1993, the award was named to honor the memory of Betty Nesvold, former President of the WPSA: "The Betty Nesvold Women and Politics Award."
