Members of the Sacramento State Hornet Girlz Dance Team are official representatives of the University. As such, Dance Team activities are considered public expressions of our institution. Consequently, it is appropriate that your participation as a member of the Dance Team be formalized. This written agreement is intended to inform you of the expectations that the University has of the Dance Team, the parameters of Dance Team activities, and the responsibilities you will have as a Dance Team member. This statement is also intended to outline the support provided by the University for the Dance Team activities and the relationship between the Dance Team and other Sacramento State groups, entities, and individuals on campus and with the public sector.
I. GENERAL PROVISIONS
The role of the Dance Team is to represent the University in areas such as athletic events, rallies, promotional activities, public relations efforts, and community service related projects. In this role, it is very important that each individual member and the Dance Team collectively, make every effort to cooperate in the advancement of the purposes and welfare of the University. It is imperative that each dance member displays the highest possible standards of effort, conduct, competence, and good taste in performance, not only while wearing the uniform, but also in dance members' personal lives.
Your general responsibilities are outlined within this agreement. However, any additional responsibilities assigned to, or taken on by you, in the course of your participation as a Dance Team member will be considered as having the same importance as those embodied in this agreement. Your continuing participations as a member of the Sacramento State Hornet Girlz Dance Team will depend on your execution of the responsibilities as indicated in this agreement, as well as those assigned to, or accepted by, you during your tenure as a member of the Dance Team.
This agreement and subsequently issued guidelines and instructions (written or verbal) will be sufficient notice to you of the efforts and behavior expected or required of team members.
In accepting a position as a member of the Sacramento State Dance Team you will be expected to satisfy all of the conditions of participation and general responsibilities outlined in this agreement. The term of the position you are being invited to accept begins upon your signing this agreement and concludes, unless terminated as outlined herein, at the end of the Spring Semester, 2008. It should be noted that this period includes breaks between semesters and vacation periods.
II. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
Your participation is contingent upon satisfaction of the following specific requirements on a continuing basis:
Continuous, regular, full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 units) from fall semester 2008 through the spring semester 2009. Maintenance of an overall 2.0 grade point average and at no time being subject to dismissal or on academic probation for two consecutive quarters.
Not being subject to disciplinary sanctions.
Each dancer shall have a complete physical by a licensed physician affirming that you are medically and physically able to safely participate in all aspects of dance activity prior to attending the college dance camp in the summer, to be submitted on the first day of practice of August 2008.
Fulfillment of the time requirement inherent to your position without monetary compensation.
Arrangement of class, employment, and personal schedules such that the Dance Team practices, performance, appearances, and travel activities can be accommodated.
Assumption of the responsibility to maintain regular communication between the captain, other members of your team, the Director or her designee, and to provide as much advance notice as possible (no less than 24 hours) to these individuals in the event an emergency arises and a Dance Team responsibility or assignment cannot be fulfilled.
Immediate notification to the Director should you find yourself unable to satisfy any of these requirements or of any change in your academic, health/medical, student, personal, or employment status that relates to these requirements.
Understanding that any injury suffered during practices, games, or other official functions will need to be treated by your personal insurance carrier or doctor.
Pass the overall Evaluations in September of 2008.
III. ADMINISTRATION
It is incumbent upon the University to provide a Director to your Dance team and a subsidy sufficient to support efforts to fulfill the duties and responsibilities assigned to you and the Dance Team. Necessary instruction and notification, in writing when appropriate, will be provided to you by the Director, her designee, or Captain regarding your responsibilities and the parameters of Dance Team activities.
Director- All Dance Team activities and operations are under the primary authority and direction of, and must be authorized by, the Director. This includes performances, material presented to the public, travel arrangements, budget allocations, management of allocations, articulation of the official position of the Dance Team in policy and governance matters, etc. In some cases the Director may delegate certain authority in these areas to the respective Captain or her designee, who will then be considered acting in the Director's place and should be responded to accordingly.
Budget/Finances- The resources provided by the University to finance the Dance Team's activities will be administered by the Director. Any effort to augment these resources must be cleared, in advance, with the Director. Only those expenditures authorized by the Director, in advance, may be made by, or accepted on behalf of, the Dance Team or individual members. It is your personal responsibility to ensure that any goods and services or monetary support provided to you by the University are used in an authorized manner, and for the express purposes for which they are provided. The receipt and use of funds, including other monetary or in-kind support, from non-University sources for the Dance Team purposes must be coordinated by the Director. You will be personally liable for all unauthorized expenditures or uses of University properties or resources, which you initiate, or to which you are an active party.
Uniform/ Expenses- You will be provided a uniform/costume to wear at Dance Team and University events. However, each individual will be responsible to purchase warm-ups, shoes, undergarments, and camp attire. You may use these items only in connection with official activities authorized by the Director. You are not to wear them before or after an event unless it is part of the travel plans. If you are unable to change before continuing on personal activities, you must wear your warm-up jacket over your uniform. Each member will also be responsible for purchasing the competition costume if enough funds are not raised to cover the cost. All items purchased by the University will be returned by the member at the end of the season. If any member decides to terminate their position on the team, all uniforms and accessories (that the school paid for), must be returned to the director and paid back in full. Failure to due so will result in an Academic Hold being placed on your records until the matter is reconciled. Each Dance Team member is responsible for all of the clothing, uniforms, and equipment assigned to her. Care must be taken to insure such clothing, uniforms, and equipment is in a clean and presentable condition. Each Dance Team member shall safeguard her clothing, uniforms, and equipment and shall be, therefore, personally liable for its replacement for loss or damage, excluding normal wear and tear. Travel- Travel to away games or competitions will be in accordance with budget restrictions and in accordance with the Big Sky conference and the University rules and regulations.The Dance Team or a portion thereof will travel with a chaperone as a group and return as a group. If a dancer chooses to go to or from a game by other transportation she gives up her privilege to dance at the game, except in special cases, which will be determined by the Director, and shall require a written release.
Final authority of all decisions made while traveling shall rest with the Director; decisions may be made with the advice and consent of the captain and majority.
An itinerary will usually be prepared and given to each dancer traveling. The itinerary will include times of departure, arrival, etc., telephone numbers of hotels, appropriate articles of clothing, etc. Dance Team members shall adhere to the itinerary.When only a specific number of dancers are attending an away game or any other special event, final authority on who goes rests with the Director. Consideration as to the selection shall be as follows; (1) determination of who wants to go (2) fairly even distribution of trips for each squad member (3)attendance records at practices, games, special events with due consideration to tardiness; (4) input from the Dance Team (vote as to whom the Dance Team thinks would be best to go). Other methods of selection, which could be used, are (1) drawing (2) seniority (3) class or (4) grade point average.
- Dance Team Representation- The quality of the relationship between you and other dance Team members and other related groups on and off campus is of critical importance. All arrangements, official contracts and photographs (in or out of uniform) in affiliation with Sacramento State must be coordinated by the Director. Under no circumstance are you to make a decision that is binding to you or the Dance Team, represent yourself as acting on the Dance Team's behalf or take an official position on behalf of the Dance Team unless you have been specifically authorized to do so by the Director, or by your Captain acting on requisite delegated authority. Corrective action will be taken if arrangements of affiliations are made without the Director's knowledge.
Any public statement or expression made by you that has not been cleared by the Director must be accompanied by an appropriate disclaimer which makes it clear that you are acting as an individual and not on behalf of or with the support or endorsement of the University or other Dance team members.
Privileges made available to you as a result of your being a member of the Sacramento State Hornet Girlz Dance Team (i.e.- complimentary game admission) are to be dealt with according to guidelines established for such matters. In no case shall you use your position or attendant privileges for personal or private benefit or gain.
Effort
Attend all scheduled events with only special exception Arrive on time and completely prepared for all scheduled events (the director will issue a team punishment= usually in the form of suicides or running exercises or the forfeiting of ones performance in a game) in this requirement is not met. Continually display positive and supportive attitudes toward teammates, the Director, athletes, fans or any one else present at events Be responsible for keeping up dance technique and body physique throughout the entire season. An additional 3 hours of cardio is required per week. Although gym membership is not mandatory it is highly recommend.Conduct
Conduct considered improper:
Talking on cell phones and/or checking messages at any team event. Suicides or running exercises will be implemented if a phone goes off. Chewing gum while in uniform Using profane language or gestures while in uniform Excessive talking during games Inciting a negative crowd response Failure to respect the decisions of the Director, Captain, or a University official at any event Leaving the sidelines for any reason, i.e. - to adjust hair, get water, go to the bathroom without the director's permission Possessing or consuming alcoholic beverages while in uniform Engaging in inappropriate affectionate behavior while in uniform Rude or disrespectful actions towards professors in Sac State classes, the Director, Captain, or other team membersAppearance:
Each member is expected to maintain a healthy weight in order to look and perform their best. The director may ask you to attend specific aerobic/ weight training class or perform certain regular exercises to maintain or attain a certain physique. Dancers must maintain a clean cut professional appearance while in uniform and during rehearsals. The director may ask you to hide certain tattoos or remove specific piercings. Each member will keep good posture and professional body language while in uniform and during rehearsals. Dancers are expected to wear lipstick, blush and mascara to performances and appearances. The director may ask you or the entire team to wear certain shades that she thinks will best complement them. False eyelashes are required and must be worn to every game and event unless instructed otherwise. Hair must be clean and done in a way that is requested by the director. The director may ask you to change the way in which you style your hair. Dancers must be ready to go at performances and appearances at the time of arrival. There will be no applying make-up or fixing hair at the event, although the Director may allow time for touch-ups.
V. DANCE TEAM ACTIVITIES AND OPERATIONS
The activities and operation of your team are to be considered, with the exception of your academic pursuits, your highest priority.
The preparation period for the 2008-2009 season will begin in August 2008. The Director will develop a schedule of planned meetings, practices and rehearsals. At least one week prior to the first home event on the fall sports schedule, a calendar of Dance Team activities through the month of December will be established. Entries will be made for the athletic events, business meeting, performances, appearances, promotional event, etc. The Director will determine practices. At times, additional appearances and practices may be made to the calendar with very short notice. You will be required to participate in any activity for which the Director requests you. All home events listed on the calendar are mandatory. This includes events that have been added with short notice. The calendar will be formulated and issued by the Director (who will also be responsible for periodically circulating notice of addition). A calendar covering the period for each academic semester will be formulated at least one week prior to the beginning of the semester. These calendars will be predicated on the following basic principles:a. All home football, women's volleyball and men's/women's basketball games, will be covered.
b. The Director will determine other events such as fund-raisers and promotions.
c. At any time the Director may add additional practices or cancel a practice will little notice. The member must remain flexible. This is including the winter break. During the academic terms, breaks between semesters and vacation periods of your tenure, you will be required to practice. It is your responsibility to provide your Director with a reasonable schedule of times during which you will be available to practice. Practices will be arranged such that they do not conflict with other appearances and performance responsibilities. All scheduled practices are mandatory. The Director will determine the practice schedule. Should the Director decide to schedule additional practices, these will also be considered mandatory. You will be required to follow guidelines established for the team's officially scheduled activities. These include being prepared (and promptly available and the specified location) and reasonable time in advance of the activity, going to and returning from the activity as a unit, fulfilling responsibilities specifically delegated to you within the appearance/performance format, etc. By maintaining a harmonious relationship with your fellow Dance Team members, you contribute to the high morale and effectiveness of the team. The following behavior can only destroy the morale of the team and will not be tolerated:a. Abusive, unfair or unkind treatment of a fellow Dance Team member
b. Contributing to or causing dissension among members of the team
c. Gossiping about team members
d. Dishonesty
e. IntoleranceEach of these behaviors will be reviewed and decided at the discretion of the Director. Any one of these behaviors can be grounds for dismissal from the team.
You will be expected to accept assignments from the Director or your Captain to assure that the burden of the teams overall responsibilities and needs are shared and satisfied in an equitable manner.
VI. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
Dance Team members are expected, first, to be good, law abiding citizens of the nation, state, and city. This expectation is foremost when it comes to alcoholic beverages. Dancers are reminded that, as highly visible members of the University, community, their actions and behavior are under constant observation. Absolutely while in uniform, but also while not in uniform, Hornet Girlz dancers are known, subject to scrutiny, and can easily be the object of criticism for their behavior or actions, in particular, for indulging or for overindulging in alcoholic beverages.
While traveling off of the campus to away games or other official functions, alcoholic beverages will not be consumed by dance team members. In most cases the Hornet Girlz dancers will be under the age of 21, the legal age to consume alcoholic beverages in virtually all states.
Members of the Dance Team shall adhere to the following rules:
Dancers shall not possess or drink alcoholic beverages in a University car, can, or bus Dancers shall not consume alcoholic beverages before or during a game or a practice, during travel to a University or official event Dancers shall not offer to procure for or attempt to coerce dancers who are under 21 or who do not want to drink alcoholic beverages into doing the same, at anytime. Dancers who are over the age of 21 and decide to drink must not draw any negative attention to themselves or to the reputation of the Dance Team. Failure to do so will result in punishment.Dancers who violate these rules shall be subject to serious disciplinary measures up to and including immediate dismissal from the team.
In summary, dancers are expected to be good citizens and, therefore, carefully and faithfully abide by University rules and regulations and the laws and ordinances of the city or state in which they live or travel.
Dancers shall participate in the conditioning program set forth by the Director.- Dancers will receive a credit/no-credit for being on the Dance Team
- Dancers are eligible for priority registration as a member of the team. Dancers must attend a mandatory workshop on academic priority registration, have a minimum of a 2.0 G.P.A., and follow any additional requirements the priority registration department deems necessary.
- Dancers shall not consume alcoholic beverages while in uniform and shall not go into any place where alcoholic beverages are served while in uniform (if violated the member and or members will be subjecting to being "benched" for a performance or performances.
- If funds are available and the team attends a collegiate dance camp in the summer. Captains and selected members will attend only.
- Dancers shall attend all practices during the school year which are scheduled for Thursdays evenings and Friday afternoons. Times TBA. Special practices will be scheduled as needed (for competition etc).
- Dancers shall not be tardy, or absent from practice. Conditioning (usually running) will be assigned for all tardies.
- Notify the Director as soon as possible is you find it impossible to attend practice or know you are going to be tardy. Excessive tardiness and absences are grounds for being "benched" from performance/performances or dismissal from the team.
- Other rules the Director may promulgate concerning dancers verbally or in written. Violation of these additional rules may result in disciplinary action.
- All dancers must past the mandatory evaluation process on September 2008. Failure to do so will result in the immediate dismissal from the team.
VII. CORRECTIVE ACTION
The conditions of participation and the parameters of and for the activities of your team collectively, and you individually, are outlined in this agreement and will be supplemented by guidelines issued as necessary. You are expected to comply with these on a consistent basis throughout your term.
Failure to comply with the requirements and stipulations of this agreement and attendant guidelines will result in your participation in Dance Team activities, including travel, being restricted. Chronic problems will result in your being removed from the team and forfeiting all privileges incidental to your position.
Except as specified herein, you will be notified of alleged failures on your part to comply with the requirements of your position, and you will have an opportunity to offer an explanation of your behavior to the Director prior to any sanctions being imposed upon you. You may appeal any sanction to the Director's supervisor.
However, until such time as the appeal can be adjudicated, the sanction will remain in effect and must be abided by.
The following specific sanctions may be imposed at the discretion of the Director if there has been any violation of any condition within this agreement:
Exclusion from performance at the next home game, or other performance, and forfeiture of any privileges associated with the performance (i.e.- wearing uniform, complimentary admission, etc.) Due to failure to attend, or arrive promptly for, a game, other scheduled event or practice without at acceptable excuse or advance notice to the Director. Removal from the Dance Team and forfeiture of all privileges (including return of all uniform) due to an accumulation of unexcused absences from officially scheduled events. Exclusion from participation and/or removal from the team for failure to get along with and respect the Director and/or other team members. Suspension or dismissal from the Dance Team due to dropping enrollment, being on probation for two consecutive semester, being subject to dismissal, having an overall GPA below 2.0, and/or being subject to disciplinary sanction.If you choose to leave the team or are asked to leave for any reason, other than grades, you will not be permitted to audition for future teams during your time at Sacramento State. You will also be responsible for all items purchased by the University.
VIII. ACCEPTANCE
My signature below affirms my acceptance of the conditions, requirements, and parameters associated with membership on the Sacramento State Dance Team and my willingness to abide by this agreement and guidelines issued during my tenure.
