Campus Furlough Plan: Update from David Wagner (7/29/09)
To All Members of the Campus Community:
Here is the latest update on furlough implementation for our campus.
Staff
To minimize impact on instruction and lessen disruptions in campus services, we have requested from the Chancellor’s Office a modification to the number of campus-designated furlough days – increasing the number of designated days from 8 to 16. If approved, two of these days will be in August: Friday, August 7, and Friday, August 14.
We will let you know as soon as possible when these furlough days are made official.
The Office of Human Resources has received questions regarding language in the CSUEU agreement as to the number of furlough days allowed per pay period. The agreement allows for three furlough days a pay period and places no restrictions on the number of furlough days per week. The Chancellor’s Office, on the advice of the State Controller’s Office, has indicated that we will only approve one furlough day per week and two per pay period with the exception of December 21-24. Further information may be forthcoming on this topic, and we will alert you if there is any change.
APC
An agreement was signed today providing a furlough plan for APC members. We hope to have details soon.
California Faculty Association
An agreement was signed today between the California State University system and CFA. It provides for 18 furlough days for academic year faculty, 20 days for 10-month faculty and 24 days for 12-month faculty. Part-time faculty are subject to furloughs on a pro-rata basis.
We are working to finalize all the details as fast as we can, and I thank you again for your patience on these matters.
Sincerely,
David Wagner
Vice President for Human Resources
