SACRAMENTO STATE BUDGET

Message to the Campus from President Alexander Gonzalez (4/29/09)

To All Members of the Campus Community:

Members of the University Budget Advisory Committee and I will hold a town hall meeting regarding the budget at noon on Tuesday, May 5, in the Hinde Auditorium. At that time, UBAC and I will present what we know of the budget for next year as well as the recommendations that have been made by UBAC to deal with the anticipated budget reductions for 2009-10.

Since many of you may not be able to attend on May 5, I’d like to provide you with a brief update.

The California State University system expects to receive $268.5 million in one-time federal stimulus funds. The money will partially offset funding cuts to the CSU budget.

The CSU Board of Trustees has had no discussions about furloughs or job cuts. Our goal on campus remains to preserve jobs and course offerings and continue to provide opportunities to our students.

We are still waiting to see how the state’s May 19 Special Election and the Governor’s planned budget revise on May 28 will affect the CSU budget in the coming fiscal year.

In the meantime, I will keep you posted as to any new developments. I also invite you to view the latest budget news on the Public Affairs web page at http://www.csus.edu/pa/budget/.

Thank you,

Alexander Gonzalez
President
