Message to the Campus from President Alexander Gonzalez (5/21/09)
In the wake of Tuesday’s Special Election, we want to update you on the University’s budget before the end of the school year.
The failure of Propositions 1A-1E, along with the cuts the governor proposed for this scenario, could result in a $410 million reduction to the California State University system. As a result, we will be working with the University Budget Advisory Committee (UBAC) throughout the summer to deal with our share of these cuts.
We want to reassure everyone that we will do everything we can to protect students, faculty and staff at our University and continue to offer the highest level of service possible. In addition to UBAC, we will be working with the Chancellor’s Office and the Academic Affairs Budget Advisory Committee to minimize the impact on our campus.
The Public Affairs Budget Central website will continue to provide updates throughout the summer at http://www.csus.edu/pa/budget/. We urge you to watch for those updates and for other email messages throughout the summer months.
We appreciate the tireless efforts of everyone who has helped us be better prepared to deal with this crisis, and we thank you in advance for the work to be done in the months ahead.
Sincerely,
Alexander Gonzalez, President
Joseph Sheley, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Bruce Bikle, Faculty Senate Chair
