SACRAMENTO STATE BUDGET

Message to the Campus from President Alexander Gonzalez (7/23/09)

To All Members of the Campus Community:

I know there is a lot of concern over how we will handle furloughs to help close the budget deficit in light of unprecedented reductions in state funding. Here is the latest information:

  • We have submitted our plan to the Chancellor’s Office for approval.
  • The plan complies with the furlough agreements negotiated by the California State University system and the bargaining units that have agreed to furloughs.
  • We aim to implement furloughs in a way that minimizes impact on teaching and allows us to offer as much quality service as we can.

We hope to have approval from the Chancellor’s Office soon, and when that happens, we will distribute the plan. However, releasing details that have not been approved could create misinformation and confusion and hinder our ability to effectively communicate the plan.

Today, Public Affairs has posted a video message with information on how we will address the funding cuts at www.csus.edu/pa/budget.

Please know that when our furlough plan is approved, we will notify you as soon as possible. We are also planning workshops so University employees can learn more about furloughs.

I thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,

Alexander Gonzalez
President
