Sacramento State’s annual “Festival of the Arts” celebrates creativity -drawing visitors from all across the Capital region.
“It’s a marketplace of ideas. In the case of the arts; a marketplace of different kinds of art and theater and dance and music”.
Guest artists not only entertain, but provide important feedback to student efforts in a number of disciplines. Alice Aycock is a guest artist from New York - world renown for her large scale sculptures.
“Teaching is the place where...”
“You get to examine an idea that you may have forgotten about."
“It really is a place, a kind of pure space which doesn’t exist anywhere else which I try to tell students.”
“The students tell us it’s important for them because it’s another professional person’s opinion. Critiquing, Comments.”
“I’ll know.....”
In addition to a full scale musical for visitors, this vocal showcase provided feedback to students on approaches to auditioning.
“Be interesting, be interested, and be eager and ready to sing something else.”
The Festival gives Sacramento State an opportunity to develop and share academic skills with an audience enjoying the product.
“We hope we are a great band, but our purpose is not for our own glorification, but to make the music come across.”
This is Jim Finnerty reporting.
