(Jim Finnerty reporting:) It’s not the usual offering on a college campus, but these high school students visiting Sacramento State are testing themselves on the University’s Peak Adventures Challenge Course.

(Phil Lock, instructor, Einstein Education Center:) “We’re a project based competency based school and so it takes a lot of teamwork in collaboration in able for them to be successful”

(Finnerty:) Phil Lock has brought his students from Einstein Education Center in Woodland.

(Jael Young, Peak Adventures, Sacramento State:) “That could be challenging for the group we have here today: is learning how to support each other in a positive way.”

(Finnerty:) The elaborate course with ropes, towers and high wires is designed to foster team building. Using games and physical tests, participants learn about trust and testing their potential.

(Young:) “When you’re up on top of a wire and you’re reaching for rope and you’re keeping your balance. That’s very physical. Without setting a goal, you’re never going to get to that goal.”

(Lock:) “It’s going to take a lot of these kids out of their comfort zone. Put ‘em into an atmosphere where they’ve got to push themselves to take a risk.”

(Finnerty:) The challenge course draws university students, community groups and businesses looking to have their members learn new ways to interact and communicate.

(Young:) “Let me try that at home. Let me try that with my co-workers.” “Helping people become their best selves. And by each person becoming their best self, we make the world a better place.”

(Finnerty:) This is Jim Finnerty Reporting.
