Campus Life

Sacramento State students lead active lives outside the classroom. There are numerous activities centered on campus, and plenty of cultural and entertainment opportunities in the surrounding area.

More than half of our students join one of more than 200 student organizations, which include 35 fraternities and sororities. Thousands participate in our extensive intramural sports program. Boating and other water-sports are offered at the Aquatic Center at Lake Natoma.

Students may attend Division I home athletic events for free, and generally attend other campus events for free or at a discount. There are numerous theater and music presentations on campus, and our four art galleries host shows by students, faculty and visiting artists. Annual arts programs include the nationally acclaimed Festival of New American Music in the fall and the Festival of the Arts in the spring.

UNIQUE Programs, funded in part by student government, presents speeches, debates, comedy shows and concerts. The Multi-Cultural Center also presents special programs and discussions.

Most of our students live off-campus in nearby houses and apartments. On-campus housing is available in five coeducational residence halls located near the American River. Students have access to free bus and light rail service throughout Sacramento.

The University’s Student Health Center offers reduced-cost prescriptions and basic medical care for students. The Children’s Center provides flexible childcare for children aged 6 months to 8 years old.
