Leadership
Whether you are preparing for a career in teaching, law enforcement, or business, attending Sacramento State offers a life-changing opportunity. We will prepare you not only for a career, but to be a leader in your profession and in your community.
Sac State is home to the prestigious Capital Fellows Program, in which graduate students work for credit as full-time staff in State legislative, executive and judicial offices. Hundreds of other students participate in business- and government-related internships.
Academics
Sacramento State offers a vibrant intellectual environment with a multicultural student body of 28,000. We graduate about 6,000 students each year. Despite our size, quality teaching in small classes remains a top priority. Students enjoy personalized attention from their professors with a student-faculty ratio of 21 to 1.
Students take their pick from 60 undergraduate and 40 graduate programs. Our most popular majors are teacher education, business, computer technology, criminal justice, psychology and communication studies. Our professors get to know their students by name, and undergraduates often assist with special projects and research. We have a new General Education Honors Program for high-achieving freshmen students.
Activities
Sacramento State students keep busy with arts programs, speeches, debates, comedy shows and concerts throughout the year. More than half the University’s students join at least one of 250 student organizations, and thousands participate in the intramural sports program. About 400 intercollegiate athletes compete at the Division I level.
Campus
We’re particularly proud of our beautiful 300-acre campus, with its lush landscaping and 3,000 trees. Miles of trails stretch along the nearby American River Parkway, linking our campus and student housing with recreational areas such as Folsom Lake and Old Sacramento.
Sacramento
Sacramento is one of the state’s most affordable big cities, and is booming with dozens of stylish restaurants, galleries and boutiques within minutes of campus. The region’s parks, rivers and nearby recreation areas make it popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Within easy driving distance are San Francisco, the Napa and Sonoma valleys, Gold Country and Lake Tahoe.
Value
Sacramento State remains one of the nation’s best higher education values, with student fees ($1,640 per semester) among the lowest in the nation. About half of our students receive some form of financial assistance.
