“Raise the sails, bail the water, and secure the oars.....”
Combining acting, music, dance and puppetry, this production of “Metamorphoses” at Sacramento State represents just part of the university’s artistic outreach.
“We’re just giving the community a very diverse example of what’s available out in the arts community.”
(Jazz Quartet Plays) From a student jazz quartet...
(music continues....) To the creation of fine art.....
(Full Orchestra Plays) To a full orchestral performance.
One focus of these offerings is to highlight academic excellence.
“That’s what a university ought to be about. It’s a marketplace of ideas. In the case of the arts, a marketplace of the kinds of art and theater and dance that you can come to.”
That marketplace gives Sacramento State the chance to offer a range of artistic presentations.
“We have programs in Chicano theater, African American theater. We have an extensive program in puppetry as well as the regular acting classes and we also have a musical theater minor.”
The performances here provide a connection; giving audiences a chance to experience what students work to perfect.
“It’s all about sharing music and expressing talents and skills. We’re in the performing arts and life would be rather dull without music.”
