Nursing program moves into Folsom Hall
Sacramento State’s Division of Nursing kicked off the New Year with a long-awaited move to Folsom Hall. After spending years in the overcrowded confines of El Dorado Hall, the new facility will allow the program to expand and meet the needs of the state’s continuing nursing shortage.
The Division of Nursing occupies 37,600-sq. ft. of Folsom Hall, nearly triple the size of El Dorado Hall. The first floor at the new location is used for clinic and lab space, while faculty offices are on the second floor. Faculty and staff were elated over the new accommodations.
“Students are absolutely excited and overwhelmed at the space and labs,” said Nursing Professor Denise Wall Parilo, prior to a special ceremony on Jan. 19, where first-year students of the program received their white coats. “[There are] lots of smiles around today.”
While in El Dorado Hall, faculty and staff had to move simulation mannequins in and out of rooms to properly conduct labs.
“It’s like a dream come true, it really is,” said Victor Lau, a student in the nursing program. “Coming from El Dorado Hall where it was dark and cramped to … [being able] to simulate the actual hospital units is just amazing.”
