Frequently Asked Questions

How much time can I sign up for on Sign-up Genius?

It is PARC’s policy that all students may have ½ hour for each session and may have up to five hours a week.

What if I feel I need more than ½ hour of tutoring or advising?

If our tutors or advisors have an open slot and no one else shows up for tutoring at that time, you may be able to see the tutor for more than ½ hour; however, no one can have more than five hours a month.

What if I am late for a tutoring or advising session?

Due to the high demand for our tutors and advisors, your place will be taken if there is someone who has come as a drop-in. If you are continually late, we may ask you to only have drop-in sessions.

What should I expect from my tutor or advisor?

Our advisors and tutors can help you identify study strengths, give you feedback that will help you in your academic and college life, coach and encourage you. However, our tutors and advisors will not give you the answers to your homework or exams, will not write your paper, advise you in a class or major selection, or guarantee that you will pass a class.

What does my advisor or tutor expect from me?

Our tutors and advisors expect that you come prepared to your sessions. In other words, if you have any questions about a class, bring your materials to your session such as your books, class notes and teachers’ directives. If for some reason, you come to a session unprepared more than once, our tutors and advisors can ask you to return at another date when you are more prepared.

What should I do if I am unhappy with my session for any reason?

We ask that you first voice your concerns with your tutor or advisor if at all possible; however, if you feel this is not viable, come to the PARC and ask for either Tina Jordan, the Director, or Hiliry Harvey, the Coordinator. We will be happy to sit down with you to discuss a solution.
