Physics and Astronomy Faculty

Prof. Gene Barnes

Dr. Gene Barnes

Emeritus Professor of Physics

Interests: I am currently serving as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the Monterey Bay Chapter of the United Nations Association, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History Association. I also belong to the Friends of the Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy (MIRA), and the Monterey Bay Paleontological Society. I recently published a book on philosophy entitled, "What Then Is Truth?" and I am completing another book. In my spare time I pursue my avocations of hiking, tennis, golf, astrophotography and sculpture. Occasionally I also write poetry and make mathematical calculations.

Prof. Barnes has generously supported our department with a scholarship for students in the Teacher Preparation Program as well as endowing the Feynman Award for Outstanding Student Research Projects.
