Course Syllabi for: 
                  Art 121: Life Painting                   Fall, 2002, Jackson

 

Prerequisite:
Art 20 or equivalent (may be taken for credit twice). Course open to art majors only.

Add/Drop Policy:
Refer to Page 10 of the Fall '02 Class Schedule booklet for procedures to add or drop classes.

Lab Fee: ($13.00) Must be Paid to Student Financial Services, Lassen Hall by no later than Census Date (September 30) or a hold will be placed on your academic record.

Course Description:
Students will primarily paint from professional models. Still life and occasional outside landscapes may be assigned during the semester. The use of color as the structural foundation of painting is the basis of training along with learning to use visual decisions as a basis for critical analysis.

Objectives:
To become familiar with the human form. Direct structuring in color, direct visual decision-making. Emphasis on structuring with color -space- illumination-3-dimensionality -mass -volume and etc. Problems in space, form, proportion, volume, illumination, etc will be given. Exercise in painting composition given during semester. Making of many paintings.

Attendance and make-up policy:
Regular attendance is required. No make-up available.

Evaluation Plan: Students will receive regular critiques. Outside assignments when appropriate.

Textbook:
None required, slide presentation when necessary.

Supplies:
Commercial (house) paint paper
canvas needed as required
