Faculty Publications and Presentationson Teaching
Biological Sciences faculty are continually exploring ways to improve student learning by incorporating different learning modes in the same course. Many faculty have incorporated tools (e.g., VARK) that help students understand what kind of a learner they are (visual, oral, read/write, kinesthetic, or combination). Varied assessments are incorporated into courses by most faculty. PowerPoint presentations and WEB-based technology are used by many faculty in their lectures. Additionally, some use WEB-based tutorials and WEB-CT. Additional activities incorporated by various faculty in their courses include interactive lectures, small group learning activities, case studies, visual studies (videos, pictures, etc.), reflective responses, active learning (individual, small groups, whole class), in class writing, concept mapping, peer teaching, problem-based learning activities in lecture and laboratory, inquiry projects, current events, and service learning.
