Research & Creative Activities
Faculty in the Department also engage in research on various topics of interest to chemists and to the society, write papers based on their research, and present papers at professional meetings.
Additionally, the Chemistry faculty strongly believe that students should be encouraged to participate in basic or applied research and to work closely with faculty in developing the skills and knowledge needed to work on an independent research project. Bachelor of Science majors are required to conduct an independent study of a research project in chemistry. This requirement is met by taking Chemistry 198 (Chemistry 199 may also be used).
Bachelor of Arts students are highly encouraged to pursue an independent research project. When applying for graduate school or an employment position you will find that this experience will make you a more desirable candidate.
