Assessment Plan
“I have the best job ever. I work with extremely bright,
creative, and interesting faculty and staff, while helping young
people develop their minds and professional curiosity. All this
on a beautiful campus that is vibrant, exciting, and energetic.”
–Gerri Smith, Organizational and Interpersonal Faculty Member
The Communication Studies Department is committed to engaging in the ongoing assessment of student learning and teaching effectiveness. To that end the department developed a comprehensive assessment plan. The plan focuses on two primary methods for assessing student learning: student portfolios and the administration of a graduating senior survey. For each of the 11 majors, concentrations, and options an assessment committee is formed, comprised of at least 3 faculty members specializing in the respective areas. The assessment committee develops assessment outcomes for each of the 11 areas, reviews the portfolios at the end of each semester, and writes assessment reports. The graduating senior survey is administered during fall.
