Student Accomplishments - 1999 - 2005

The Model UN team advised by Ron Fox, Government, won a “Best Position Paper Award” at the 2005 National Model UN conference, held over spring break in New York City. This award, given to only 10 of the over 200 schools participating in the conference, is for the policy papers each delegation writes expressing their assigned country's or nongovernmental organization's position on the issues being debated at the UN simulation. Sacramento State represented the nongovernmental organization Third World Network. This is the third time Sacramento State has won this award in the five years it has been given.

The CSUS MODEL UN delegation won its second straight “Overall Best Delegation” award at the 2004 American MUN conference held November 19-24 in Chicago, Ill. In addition, Sacramento State students won individual awards in the second committee, which debated the issues of external debt and access to freshwater, and in the international press.

Ronald Fox, government, attended the 2003 American Model United Nations conference in Chicago with his team of CSUS students and returned with five awards: best delegate awards in the International Court of Justice, International Press, GA First Committee and GA Third Committee, as well as Overall Best Delegation. This represents the most awards won by a CSUS delegation since the program at CSUS was founded by Fox in 1977.
