Department Service
Our faculty involvement with students, university and community demonstrate a wealth of departmental service. For a detailed description, browse through the Faculty Service and Special Accomplishment pages in this Portfolio.
Additionally, our Department has representatives on the Faculty Senate. Many of our faculty sit on various Senate and University Committees and the Center for Teaching and Learning. The Department Chair meets monthly with the Vice President of Academic Affairs as part of the CSUS Chairs meeting. The KHS Department has a long history of active participation in the University governance process.
We also involve our students in service. Currently two Department Committees (Graduate Committee and Physical Education Committee) have student representatives. In addition, HLSC and KINS use focus groups, student clubs, etc. to get student input. The current list of student clubs and advisors is as follows:

The Department interacts with the College at a number of levels. Two examples of this interaction are the College Administrative Council and the College Academic Council. The Chairs from each unit in HHS sit on the Administrative Council, along with the Dean and the Associate Dean. Monthly meetings are held to discuss issues including budget, scheduling, hiring, RTP, etc. In addition to these meetings, each Chair meets individually with the Dean once a month to discuss issues and to keep the lines of communication open. It is our view that the communication between the Dean's office and the KHS Department Office is excellent.
The College Academic Council is made up of faculty representatives from each unit in the College, along with the Dean and Associate Dean. The Council is another avenue of communication between the College and the Department. A major role that this Council plays has to do with the approval process for course proposals and program proposals.
