Kinesiology Program Recognition
Fall 2005
WAVE Camp, a summer camp for young people with disabilities directed by kinesiology professor Scott Modell, was recognized by Sacramento County as one of the outstanding collaborative programs in Sacramento that serve youth. The Sacramento community made the America's Promise list of the 100 best communities for young people. The list was featured in Newsweek magazine.
Fall 2003
Lois Boulgarides , kinesiology and health science, received the California Physical Therapy Association's Physical Therapist Faculty Research Award for the study “Use of Clinical and Impairment Based Tests to Predict Falls by Community-Dwelling Older Adults.” The study was done with Susan McGinty , physical therapy, Jayne Willett , kinesiology and health science, a number of physical therapy and kinesiology students, with help from Bill Edwards.
The CSUS Olympic Weightlifting Club, advised by Bill Kutzer, professor of kinesiology and health science, won the CSUS recreational sports "2003 outstanding season" award, had members win a national gold medal and two bronze medals, and placed third in the women's competition at the recent USAW National Weightlifting Championships.
2001 THE DEPARTMENT OF KINESIOLOGY AND HEALTH SCIENCE was given an Outstanding Program Award at the annual dinner of the Sacramento Association for the Retarded in March. The department was nominated for the award by the Sacramento Unified School District because of the department’s work with district students with special needs who attend the University and participate in a number of the department’s activity classes.

SCOTT MODELL, kinesiology and health
science, was named field editor for the
special education journal Palaestra Journal in the area of active aging.
SCOTT MODELL received the Outstanding Community Service Award in May of 2004. See article in the Bulletin, March 2005 issue.

ROBERTO QUINTANA, kinesiology and health science, was awarded a $1,000 Service Learning Award to implement service learning in the exercise science curriculum in spring 2001.
