The Department of Kinesiology follows a broad definition of Scholarship and follows the University position on scholarship:
The pursuit of knowledge through scholarship complements and enhances the teaching mission of this University and enriches the learning community. The process of discovering, synthesizing, and applying knowledge is indispensable to intellectual and institutional quality. Scholarship is the "glue" that holds the University together; it is at the center of student learning. Creativity and innovation are central values of the University and are reflected through the many forms of faculty scholarship.
Excellent scholarship is multifaceted. It includes the traditional discovery of knowledge and integration of this knowledge across disciplines. As well, scholars display the capacity to synthesize and look for new relationships, new patterns of meaning, new ways of knowing; and they embrace the challenge of applying knowledge to the problems of society. They acknowledge that quality teaching requires substantive scholarship.
The faculty meet or exceed the department's minimum expectations for scholarly/creative activities.
