In spring 1998, CSUS was invited to join the Urban University Portfolio Project (UUPP), a national initiative funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts.Participation in this project has provided the University with the opportunity to pursue several goals:

Expansion of meaningful and focused campus conversations about core learning expectations for the baccalaureate degree

Improvement of our efforts to develop a coordinated assessment plan that integrates institutional and program activities and processes within the eight themes of our Strategic Plan

Identification of hallmarks, best practices, and enabling structures that illustrate our commitment to undergraduate education. Identification and removal of impediments or barriers to our goal of providing the best possible environment for teaching and learning

Collaboration and consultation with other comprehensive public universities that are committed to these goals and to presenting their activities to various interested groups and individuals

Development of a maintainable web-based institutional portfolio that will support our assessment and improvement activities. The institutional portfolio will allow CSUS to communicate more effectively with internal and external stakeholders about our enterprise---who we are, why we are, what we are, what we expect of our students, what our community can expect of us, and what we are working to improve.
