Eligibility for Certificate

Students can earn the Certificate in Collaborative Governance by successfully completing all three Collaborative Governance courses: PPA 270 , PPA 271 , and PPA 272 (formerly PPA 296L) .

• Current MPPA Students must complete prerequisites, PPA 200 and PPA 210 , before taking the three collaborative courses in order: PPA 270 , PPA 271 , then PPA 272 (formerly PPA 296L) . These courses can be used as electives toward the MPPA.

• Students enrolled in other CSUS graduate departments may earn the certificate in the same way as MPPA students or by obtaining permission from the Department chair. Students from other departments who need permission should use the add form and attach documentation detailing academic preparation (PPA 200 and PPA 210 or equivalent).

• MPPA Alumni can earn the certificate by taking all three courses through Open University. The Open University process, while very straightforward, requires signatures from both the instructor and the Department chair.

• In rare cases, off-campus students can earn the certificate by taking all three courses through Open University. However, to be eligible for the certificate someone who is not a PPA student or alum must:
1. have a baccalaureate degree,
2. have completed the equivalent of PPA 200 and PPA 210, and
3. submit an application to the department that includes three letters of recommendation and a written statement of purpose.
A department committee will then determine if the candidate should be admitted for the certificate. Anyone with an interest in the certificate and without a PPA background should contact the Department chair.

Please note the instructor and Department chair are under no obligation to sign add permits and Open University forms.

Certificate Completion
The University requires two forms, the Academic Certificate Course Verification and Application for Academic Certificate (with $10 fee), to determine completion of the certificate.
