Hello my name is J’Lissabeth Faughn and I am the Director of the Multi-Cultural Center, and Pride & Women’s Resource Center.
I have over 12 years of experience in Student Affairs including serving as the Coordinator of LGBT Student Services at Iowa State University and Coordinator of the LGBTQ Center at University of Missouri. I was also one of the founding faculty members of Campus Pride’s Summer Leadership Institute. I have a strong interest in Drag Culture and spent many years performing and conducting research in the drag community.
A lot of my recent work has been advocacy for transgender students in higher education. I have worked with over a dozen university and colleges to add gender inclusion to the non-discrimination policy and to have gender inclusive housing in residence life. I served as Newsletter Editor and Publications Chair for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Professionals and as an officer of American College Personnel Association’s Standing Committee for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Awareness. I have also been a speaker on transgender healthcare at a variety of medical schools and conferences, and conducted training for police officers on domestic abuse in same-gender relationships.
We have a variety of ways to get involved with the Pride Center – safe zone training, become a speaker’s bureau panelist (Allies always wanted, too!), National Coming Out Day (October 11), and Pride Week (in April) – these are just a few of the myriad of ways to help make Sacramento State a safe and welcoming environment for all students, and to continue to learn about Gender & Sexual Identity.
