Welcome to

Psychological Counseling Services

If you are in immediate crisis, please call 911 or the Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Psychological Counseling Services (PCS) helps students cope with stress or troubling personal problems that may interfere with their academic life. Everyday problems such as work stress, financial concerns, illness, family pressure, and relationship issues can be distracting, making it difficult to concentrate on coursework. Our goal is to assist you through our various services and help you manage life challenges that can hinder your academic progress.

If you're a regularly enrolled Sac State student, you're eligible for our free sevices which include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Couples counseling
  • Group therapy
  • Support groups
  • Biofeedback and relaxation training
  • Crisis intervention
  • Psychiatric services (medication evaluation and treatment)
  • Learning Disorders Services (assessment and referral)
  • Workshops and Classroom Presentations
Summer Drop In hours are only at the Student Health Center and are:
  • Monday: 10 to 11:30 AM and also 1:2:30 PM
  • Tuesday: 10 to 11:30 AM and also 1 to 2:30 PM
  • Wednesday: 1 to 2:30 PM
  • Thursday: 10 to 11:30 AM and also 1 to 2:30 PM
  • Friday: 10 to 11:30 AM.

No appointment is necessary for this brief assessment as students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

During the drop-in, you'll have a brief interview with a counselor to discuss your concerns and go over the available options and resources we offer to help you decide how to proceed.

PCS provides brief, time-limited psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment. On average, most students are seen for about five psychotherapy sessions. Group psychotherapy is available to students throughout their academic life at Sac State. Your counselor will discuss your particular treatment needs with you.

Privacy and confidentiality are fundamental rights to all who use our services. At PCS your right to privacy is respected, meaning that no information about you is released to anyone, and that no information appears in any other departmental or university records without your written consent.

Our staff is also available by request to consult with university departments and student groups to develop workshops, presentations, and discussions for students.
