April for Alumni
The first-ever Alumni Month at Sac State in April was a rousing success.
The month featured a series of events celebrating and honoring current and future alumni. Graduates, students, faculty and staff were treated to on- and off-campus fun as well as benefits, like reduced prices for events, for members of the Sac State Alumni Association.
Alumni Month is built on the tradition of the Distinguished Service Awards, which recognize former Sac State students who have "brought distinction
to themselves and the University through their accomplishments." Honorees
this year included California Highway Patrol commissioner Michael L. Brown, Eskaton president Todd Murch and emeritus professor Ann Weldy, who received the Distinguished Faculty Award.
Other events included a visit from Honda's humanoid robot—and now honorary Hornet—ASIMO; a production of Claudio Monteverdi's 17th-century opera L'Incoronazione di Poppea featuring alumnus and professional lutenist Michael Leopold; and an Alumni Theatre Project tribute to late professor Bob Smart. Green and Gold Day and "Sacramento State Night with the River Cats" rounded out the month.
