IAMGE: Across Campus

Briefly

  • Citizenship.
In July, Sac State was the site of one of California's
largest naturalization ceremonies in decades. Nearly 1,500 Northern and Central Californians walked into Hornet Stadium as citizens of other countries and emerged as Americans.
  • Track and Field.
Sac State hosted the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June and will again in 2006 and 2007. It is the first time since 1945 the NCAA has chosen to hold the meet at the same site in successive years.
  • Rwanda.
Rwandan president Paul Kagame spoke to an overflow crowd in the Alumni Center in April about progress toward peace in Rwanda. During the visit, Sac State established a scholarship agreement with Rwanda's university.
  • Commencement.
In the largest spring commencement in Sac State history, more than 4,200 students were eligible to cross the stage in May. They included Brandon Jackson, the first recipient of the new President's Award as the year's outstanding graduate.
  • Digital radio.
Fans of jazz and public radio news became the first in the Sacramento area to experience digital radio. KXJZ, the jazz and news station licensed to Sac State and operated by Capital Public Radio, was the first station in the area to convert to the technology, which lets listeners with HD radio receivers
hear broadcasts with the clarity of compact discs.
