State’s Balinese percussion orchestra
Gamelan Suara Santi—or Voice of Peace—debuted in concert with
renowned Balinese musicians Gamelan Sekar Jaya in October. The ?ve-tone
“angklung” gamelan is played by up to 25 Sac State musicians
and led by music professor Daniel Kennedy, who oversaw the creation of
the group’s instruments in Bali.
The group adds to an already diverse campus music scene, with University
and visiting performers offering a world of musical styles year-round.
