About Us

Sacramento State’s research and scholarly portfolio is led by a faculty focused on an active and symbiotic integration of teaching, research and inquiry.  Within departments, individual research agendas thrive alongside interdisciplinary research collaborations.  Students, both undergraduate and graduate, are more involved in faculty research projects. Across the campus, academic programs and curricula are being revised, and research pathways are being redefined, to address new demands.  Most prominent are research initiatives in the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, while research activity in the allied health sciences, clean energy development, and the social and behavioral sciences is increasing.  Faculty collaborations on cancer disparities research, medical technology innovation, and biotechnology training are underway with the University of California, Davis as part of our collective commitment to the region’s health and wellness.

RACA provides a broad range of support and development services related to sponsored research grants and contracts.  Our structure is the result of a creative partnership between Academic Affairs and University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI), the primary campus auxiliary, in which Academic Affairs staff provide research and proposal development support, and UEI staff accept and administer the awarded funds on behalf of the University.  Research Administration also facilitates, for Academic Affairs and the Faculty Senate, the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and the Research and Creative Activity Committee.

Our roles as part of this new research enterprise at Sacramento State are changing as well.  We are striving to become more agile and strategic in response to faculty and regional needs.  As part of this, the professional staff members of Research Administration and Contract Administration (RACA) are exploring new research development initiatives, greater levels of faculty support, and a strengthened commitment to the research and scholarly priorities of the faculty and campus.

When it comes to great teaching and meaningful research, Sacramento State is on the move!
