Research and Creative Activity Awards
California State University, Sacramento and the CSU system recognize that research and creative activities are necessary and integral parts of a university professor's scholarly endeavors. The University has several sources of internal funding designed to support faculty in their research and creative activity.
The Research and Creative Activity Subcommittee (RCAS) solicits proposals during the Fall Semester of each academic year. The RCAS is directly responsible for managing the peer-review process by putting out a call for reviewers and organizing review panels, which meet during the January Intersession. During the Spring term, the RCAS makes recommendations for awards based on the results of the peer-reviewed evaluation. Recommendations are forwarded to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, who makes final award decisions.
The Research and Creative Activity Award Program provides assigned time (up to a maximum of twelve units per academic year), monetary grants (up to $2,500) and/or summer fellowships (one month for tenured faculty and one to two months for non-tenured faculty) for research and creative activity projects. An annual competition is held to recommend recipients of these awards. Applications are peer reviewed by a panel of six faculty.
