The initiative is designed to bring together a diverse interdisciplinary group with expertise in genetics/genomics, immunology, microbiology and proteomics along with the more traditional areas of parturition research such as maternal fetal medicine, obstetrics, and pediatrics to address scientific issues related to preterm birth. Proposals must be submitted from degree-granting institutions in the United States or Canada. The principal investigator must have a faculty appointment at a degree-granting institution in the U.S. or Canada. Researchers working at research institutes, national laboratories, within the federal government, or outside of North America may be partners or collaborators but all funding must be channeled through the U.S. or Canadian degree-granting institution of the principal investigator. Proposals should address the biomedical causes and mechanisms underlying (preterm) parturition including but not limited to peri-implantational events, placentation, fetal determinants, fetal-maternal immune responses, biological basis for racial-ethnic disparities, mechanisms relating preterm birth to other adverse pregnancy outcomes, biology of normal labor, etc. Proposals seeking to identify biomarkers predicting preterm birth are welcome. Proposals must have an interdisciplinary approach. One member of the team must have training and expertise outside the traditional areas of reproductive science. Proposals that cross institutional boundaries (partnerships between multiple universities or collaborations within larger universities) are encouraged.

The sponsor offers this fellowship to senior scholars for the support of original research at the Center in the humanities including but not limited to Jewish studies, Russian and East European studies, American studies and Germanic studies, as well as by musicologists, linguists, anthropologists, sociologists and historians. Fellows are expected to conduct original research at the Center, deliver at least one lecture based on the research conducted, actively participate in the scholarly community at the Center, acknowledge the Center and NEH in all publications resulting from research completed during the fellowship and submit a report upon completion of the fellowship describing the experience. Biological Field Stations and Marine Laboratories (FSMLs) are off-campus facilities for research and education conducted in the natural habitats of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. FSMLs support environmental and basic biological research and education by preserving access to study areas and organisms, by providing facilities and equipment in close proximity to those study areas, and by fostering an atmosphere of mutual scientific interest and collaboration in research and education. The long-range goal of EXTREEMS-QED is to support efforts to educate the next generation of mathematics and statistics undergraduate students to confront new challenges in computational and data-enabled science and engineering (CDS&E). EXTREEMS-QED projects must enhance the knowledge and skills of most, if not all, the institution's mathematics and statistics majors through training that incorporates computational tools for analysis of large data sets and for modeling and simulation of complex systems. Funded activities are expected to provide opportunities for undergraduate research and hands-on experiences centered on CDS&E; result in significant changes to the undergraduate mathematics and statistics curriculum; have broad institutional support and department-wide commitment that encourage collaborations within and across disciplines; and include professional development activities for faculty or for K-12 teachers.

The Women in United Methodist History Research Grant provides seed money for research projects relating specifically to the history of women in The United Methodist Church or its antecedents. Grants totaling $2,500 will be available with each grant being at least $1,000. The grant money is not to be used for equipment, publications costs, or researcher's salary. Selection is made by a committee consisting of three persons who are historians of women in United Methodism. The Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) program of the Office of Science (SC) and the Office of Stockpile Stewardship of the Defense Programs (DP) of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), both of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), jointly announce their interests in receiving grant applications for new awards for research in the SC-NNSA Joint Program in High-Energy-Density Laboratory Plasmas (HEDLP). All individuals or groups planning to submit applications for new funding in Fiscal Year 2013 should submit in response to this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). Principal Investigators who currently have awards through the joint HEDLP program should not apply. Approximately 8 to 12 awards are expected. It is anticipated that award sizes may range from $50,000 per year to $500,000 per year, typically less than $300,000 per year, with a median award size between $200,000 per year and $250,000 per year.

The International Collaborative Research Grant (ICRG) supports international research collaborations between two or more qualified scholars, where the principal investigators bring different and complementary perspectives, knowledge, and/or skills to the project. Supplemental funds are also available to provide essential training for academic research participants in ICRG-funded projects (co-applicants, students, as well as other professional colleagues). By encouraging international collaborations, the grant contributes to the development of an international anthropology that values and incorporates different national perspectives and resources.
