ResLink Acceptable Use Policy
California State University, Sacramento, through Housing and Residential Life provides in-room connection services in the residence halls in support of the educational mission of the University. Use of these services is a privilege. As such, it is the responsibility of each resident to use these services appropriately and in compliance with all University, City, County, State and Federal regulations. (See University Computing and Telecommunication Security Policy [www.csus.edu/uccs/about/policies/security.stm] and University Computer Network User Code of Ethics [www.csus.edu/uccs/about/policies/ethics.stm] for more information.) The following are regulations for use of ResLink. This list is not inclusive and may be modified in writing, at any time. Violation of these regulations or the spirit of these regulations, may be cause for revocation of these privileges.
- ResLink services and wiring may not be modified or extended beyond the area of their intended use. This applies to all network, hardware and in-room data jacks.
- ResLink may not be used to provide access to Sacramento State computer services or the Internet to anyone outside of the Residence Halls community for any purposes (other than those in direct support of the academic mission of the University).
- Sacramento State specific or commercially obtained network resources may not be retransmitted outside of the University community.
- ResLink is a shared resource. Thus network use or applications which inhibit or interfere with the use of the network by others are not permitted. (For example, applications which use an unusually high portion of the bandwidth for extended periods of time, thus inhibiting the use of the network by others). Users may be asked to cease any system activity that directly or indirectly creates interference in the operation and administration of the network.
- ResLink may not be used for setting up servers (WWW, IRC, FTP, Video, Games, etc.).
- ResLink may not be used for any commercial purposes. ResLink connections may not be used to monitor network data or devices by means of hardware or software applications.
- Forgery or other misrepresentation of one's identity via electronic or any other form of communication, including alteration of e-mail addresses, IP addresses and /or Ethernet hardware addresses, is a violation of University and ResLink Policy. Prosecution under State and Federal laws may also apply.
- Use of ResLink resources is governed by Housing and Residential Life Policies. Non-resident users (i.e. guests) are also expected to abide by the spirit of these policies and all guidelines mentioned herein when using these resources.
- Residents are ultimately responsible for all use of network connections originating in their room.
- You cannot have a modem on a computer attached to the campus network.
- You cannot have a wireless network access device attached to the campus network, or active on campus.
Failure to comply with any of the above policies may result in termination of in-room connection without notice for suspected policy violations. Student violations of the above policies will be handled through Housing and Residential Life and/or, as appropriate, by the Vice President of Student Affairs and/or the University Police Department. In accordance with the University guidelines and/or court orders, files and transmissions may be subject to search and examination by system administrators and/or employees as required to protect users and the integrity of computer systems. Examples include systems that are suspected of being involved in unauthorized use or misuse, or that have been corrupted or damaged. Questions about this policy or whether a particular activity would violate it should be addressed to the ResLink Coordinator, at reslink@csus.edu or by calling the ResLink Service Center at extension 82555 on campus or at (916) 278-2555 off campus.
