Tram Project on a Roll
Plans for the Sac State Tram are picking up speed. A nearly $1 million capital grant from the Sacramento Area Council of Governments has kick-started design and engineering work on a proposed bus rapid transit type-system that will serve as a people-mover loop around the Sac State campus and connect the University with the 65th Street Light Rail Station.
Campus officials say the tram will give faculty, staff and students a safe and convenient alternative way to get on and off campus. Just as importantly, the Tram will make the campus more accessible to the broader Sacramento community.
The Tram is modeled after a similar system in Portland. The Sac State version could begin limited service as early as 2008, and could be completed by 2010. |
