President's Message

Sacramento State is poised for greatness as the most distinctive and important campus in the CSU system, and the West.

You might imagine, in my final semester as President, I’ve been asked many times to recount my three-and-a-half decades in higher education and the highlights of my career. What first comes to mind isn’t always the physical transformation or the growth of campuses overall. I find myself recalling the people—alumni, students, faculty, staff and community supporters—who have been part of this journey.

I think about the insightful colleagues, dedicated volunteers and enthusiastic students who have grabbed hold of ideas, taken risks and celebrated our accomplishments. I recall those I have mentored and smile to think about how they now pay it forward by counseling and coaching others. And, I think about how meaningful it is that each of these people has kept his or her eyes on what’s really important: the success of our students.

Sacramento State is poised for greatness as the most distinctive and important campus in the CSU system, and the West. We are the University in the Capital City of the most important state in the country. For our students—both today and in the future—that means that the world is at their feet. Not only is that a great source of pride from my time as President, but it holds all the promise that their lives deserve.

I am incredibly proud of what we have all accomplished. Together, we have made a difference for our students, our alumni and our community.

Gloria and I will continue to live in Sacramento and I know we will see many of you, and I look forward to those meetings when I can say thank you to you in person. Sacramento State is forever in our hearts, and we are forever green and gold.

Sincerely,

Alexander Gonzalez
President
