| Distinguished Service Award Recipients Larry Augusta (‘62, Social Science), retired assistant counsel for the State Board of Equalization, has been on the Alumni Association board since 1999 and was president in 2001-02. Lauren R. Hammond (’77, Government), the first African American woman to be elected to the Sacramento City Council, was named one of Sacramento’s “30 Most Powerful Women” by Sacramento magazine. Scott W. Maxwell (’85, Construction Management), vice president of Unger Construction, is a former Alumni Association president. His firm worked on numerous upgrades to Hornet Stadium. Gloria Carido Nomura (’62, Social Science), taught for 39 years in the Stockton Unified School District and was the first Filipina elected to the Stockton City Council, serving two terms and as vice mayor. Alice D. Perez (’99, Finance and Insurance), manager of residential services for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, is on numerous boards including the National Low Income Energy Consortium. Lloyd O. Snelson (’57, Education, ’67, Education), was a long-time high school principal in the San Juan Unified School District. He has contributed thousands of volunteer hours to Sacramento State. Lawrence Williams (’50, Accountancy, ’58, Secondary Education), was a teacher and administrator at area high schools, and in the Los Rios Community College District. Karen Y. Zamarripa (’00, Public Policy and Administration), assistant vice chancellor for advocacy and institutional affairs for the California State University system, has been honored by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. Daniel Zingale, chief of staff to California First Lady Maria Shriver and a senior-level advisor to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, has been involved in numerous public policy issues including human rights and health care |
