Kim Hughes (’84, Physical Education) Hornet Gymnastics head coach
Kim Hughes has been a staple of the Sacramento State gymnastics program for more than 29 years, 25 of them as head coach. He has developed a program which rose from the ranks of Division II and is now a model of success at the Division I level. Under his tutelage, the team has flourished, winning six league titles in the last seven years. The Hornets have also earned 40 All-American honors during his tenure.
The awards presented to Hughes in 2006 alone include West Region Coach of the Year, Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, and Western Athletic Conference Champions. His coaching resume includes nearly 20 years with the Nor-Cal Gymnastics Camp in Santa Cruz. Hughes is involved with the United Way, and has served as the athletics department representative on the campus committee for seven years.
