Gloria Carido Nomura (’62, Social Science)

Gloria Nomura began her teaching career at Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento and before moving to the Stockton Unified School District, where she guided and mentored students for more than 39 years.

Nomura was the first Filipina elected to the Stockton City Council, serving two terms, including five years as vice mayor. She is a founding member of the St. George’s Neighborhood Betterment Committee, coordinator of the San Joaquin Healthy Children’s Collaborative, and a member of the San Joaquin Public Health Early Prenatal Care Consortium. She is also on the advisory committee for the John Cheadle YMCA Center, chairs the local American Heart Association chapter and is on the board of directors for SEEDS, which provides tuition assistance for students in Stockton Catholic schools.
