Ashlin WashingtonShanté Johnson

Hometown: Hanford, Calif.

Major: Kinesiology. Plans to graduate in Spring 2010.

Background: Born in Willingboro, New Jersey, and moved to Hanford when she was 8. “I was a cheerleader, and I was teaching gymnastics so I knew that I wanted a major that included being active and helping people.”

Influences: “Being around other people who are doing something for themselves and bettering themselves educationally or personally. Just being around people who are motivated to do more for themselves and for society.”

Influences: “My family really influences me to do well. My family is big on education; they are very supportive and give me plenty of strength to stick with school.”

Highlight: Is a student supervisor with the Annual Fund’s Student Calling Center, which raises money for Sac State, and has worked there since her freshman year. “The Sacramento State Annual Fund keeps me very busy and very involved. Working here has given me many great skills that will help me be successful and productive in my future.”

Proudest accomplishment: Being successful as a full-time student while also working. “I’m doing what I have to do so my future will be what I want it to be.”

Destination: To start out working with someone as a physical therapist. “After that I want to run the show, I want to have my own practice. That’s the long term plan.”
