2011 Spring Application Cycle to Remain Open

09-01-2010

The application period for the Spring 2011 term will continue to remain open until Sept. 27.

The application period for the Spring 2011 term will continue to remain open until Sept. 27, the California State University system announced on Aug. 30.  The announcement includes Sacramento State. However, due to the uncertainty surrounding the state budget, the enrollment of new students for that term still remains contingent on a restoration of state funding.

After opening the application cycle on August 1, CSU campuses began the eligibility review process to admit qualified students in the event of a restored state budget or, alternatively, hold applications pending final passage of a late budget.  The CSU's traditional application cycle for admission in the spring term is August 1 through August 31.

New students who have applied for admission to the spring term will be notified by campuses shortly after September 27 regarding the status of their applications.  Should the CSU not receive a restoration of funding and not be able to admit new students for the term, applicants may request their admission application be changed to the fall 2011 term or may request that their application be withdrawn and the application fee be refunded.

Typically, the CSU enrolls more than 30,000 new students during the spring.  Last year, as part of an overall strategy to address a $625 million cut in state funding, the CSU closed spring 2010 admissions system-wide.  The governor's proposed budget - which includes the restoration of $305 million, as well as an additional $60.6 million that would fund further enrollment expansion - would allow CSU campuses to reverse course and to provide access in the 2010-2011 academic year to an estimated 29,000 additional students.

Applicants are encouraged to visit the CSUMentor website (http://www.csumentor.edu/) and campus websites for additional information.
