Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium is the site of a memorial service for fallen Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District firefighter James Saunders on 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12.
There will be a major street closure on campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accommodate the memorial service traffic. All faculty, students, staff and visitors are advised to avoid the area around Hornet Stadium during that time.
State University Drive West will be closed from Parking Structure 1 at Sinclair Road to State University Drive South and from Stadium Way to State University Drive East. Pedestrian and bicycle paths will not be closed.
The memorial service will allow the family and friends of Saunders to pay their respects to the Sacramento firefighter who suffered a heart attack while battling a grass fire. The popular 22-year veteran of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was hailed as “selfless” by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has directed that flags at the State Capitol be flown at half staff.
