Two Sacramento State cyclists qualify for nationals
Sacramento State’s cycling team has qualified two riders for the 2011 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships.
Korina Huizar and Joe Iannarelli will represent the Hornets at the event May 6-8 in Madison, Wis. About 100 colleges and universities will be represented as nearly 500 student-athletes compete for 18 national titles.
Huizar, who hails from south Placer County, transferred to Sac State from Sierra College two years ago and is in her first year of competitive cycling. She was a member of the Sac State triathlon team before a stress fracture in May 2010 limited her to either swimming or cycling. The senior majoring in Business-Marketing and Economics is scheduled to graduate after taking courses this summer.
Iannarelli, a Kinesiology major who expects to graduate in Fall 2011, began riding about seven years ago. The berth in the national championships is the Vacaville native’s first.
