One chapter ends – another begins. New Sacramento State students and their families descended on the University’s residence halls on Friday, Aug. 24, for the annual Move-In Day.

About 1,000 first-year students moved into the traditional halls, helped by about 350 Sac State student volunteers who carted boxes of clothes and linens, refrigerators, microwaves, televisions – you name it – from the parking lot to the residence halls and up the stairs to the students’ new home.

“The volunteers not only help carry belongings, they also introduce the new students to the many ways they can get involved on the campus,” says Melissa A. Norrbom, program advisor for Student Organizations & Leadership.

Housing and Residential Life staff members had everything ready.

“This is an important day for both the students and the parents,” says Housing and Residential Life Director Michael Speros. “Our staff has been preparing for the last month for opening day, to make this transition as easy as possible for our students and families.”

Another 575 returning and transfer students moved into the University’s apartment-style American River Courtyard on Aug. 25 and 26.
