Sacramento State is sad to report that a student who lived in the American River Courtyard residence hall was found dead in the early-morning hours of Sept. 20.
The cause of death cannot be determined until an autopsy has been completed, although University Police have indicated that there was no sign of a disturbance in the student’s room.
“The loss of a student is devastating to the entire campus community,” said Lori Varlotta, vice president for Student Affairs. She, along with several other senior administrators, reported immediately to the scene. “Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the student’s family during this difficult time.”
The student’s parents have been notified; however, the name of the student is being withheld until additional family members can be contacted.
Residence hall students have been advised of on-campus counseling services.
“Sacramento State is deeply saddened by the passing of one of our students on campus," President Alexander Gonzalez said. "We are working to help the student’s family and friends during this very difficult time, and we will make all appropriate services available for any fellow students affected by this tragedy.”
