Sacramento State Professor Carlos Nevarez will deliver a keynote address for the Power in Diversity Leadership Conference, Jan. 24-27 at St. Cloud State University’s Atwood Memorial Center in Minnesota. He will join talk-show host, author and commentator Tavis Smiley to address the issue of poverty in America.

Nevarez, an expert on leadership theory and training in higher education, is a former doctoral fellow for the Kellogg Foundation. He has focused on developing academic programs designed to cultivate transformational leaders and is director of Sac State’s Doctorate in Educational Leadership Program.

This is the fourth annual conference, bringing together students and employees from Minnesota state colleges as well as regional private colleges and universities. This year’s theme is, “We Are the Change: Where Do We Go from Here?”

The conference builds leadership and communication skills, promotes academic excellence and reinforces education and cultural development – all in the spirit of change. While it focuses on the experiences of students of color, Power in Diversity is open to all who wish to take part.
