Department of Music professor Robert Halseth, director of Bands and professor of Conducting, served as director, clinician, chief adjudicator and honor band conductor at the inaugural Andaman Music Festival in Phuket, Thailand, in early December. In January, he was guest conductor for the Capitol Section CMEA Junior High School Honor Band at Sheldon High School, and also co-led a tribute to Sandy Hook concert with his Sierra Nevada Winds Orchestra at Placer High School in Auburn. Feb. 7-9, he conducted the NorCal Honor Band at Humboldt State in Arcata. And in March he journeys to Kobe, Japan, where he will conduct the 100-member Asia Pacific Activities Conference Honor Band in their biennial meeting, working with students from Japan and many parts of China.
Cynthia Linville, English, was quoted in The Sacramento Bee article “Between the lines: Lovin’ it,” Feb. 10. In 2012 her book of collected poems, The Lost Thing, was reviewed in Sacramento Press, Sacramento News & Review, Submerge magazine, and Poetry Now. Zoom magazine and Sacramento Press carried additional articles about her poetry.
Professor Emeritus Robert G. Mogull has been notified that his study, “A Half-Century of California Poverty” has been accepted for publication in a forthcoming issue of The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare.
