Sacramento State, Univision and Assemblyman Roger Dickinson have teamed up to present “Feria de Educacion: Es El Momento,” an education fair designed to help Latino families navigate the California education system from K-12 through community college and the university level.

The fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in the University Union Ballroom. It will be free and open to the public.

“At Sacramento State, we want everyone in the region to know that a quality university education is within reach of all qualified students,” says Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez. “We are proud to join with our community partners on Es El Momento to spread the word that it’s never too early for families to begin preparing for college.”

The fair’s goals are to promote a college-going culture among the Spanish-speaking community; to share information about what it takes to attend college and how to pay for college; and to provide information about many other educational community programs and services.

Latino students lag behind their non-Latino peers on a number of key metrics, including standardized test scores, high school graduation rates, college matriculation rates and college graduation rates. Closing this achievement gap is essential to help Latino students succeed in school and be prepared for today's workforce.

The fair will provide opportunities to learn about college and university admission requirements, what parents can do to prepare their children for college, how to pay for college through many available financial aid programs, as well as to learn about many other important community resources.

There will be music, entertainment, food and a book giveaway.
