Sacramento State is set to launch a new strategic plan and is inviting everyone to help shape the University’s future.

It has been six years since the last update to the plan, and changes in higher education at Sacramento State and elsewhere are having, and will continue to have, an impact on how universities teach their students.

Programs, technology, student housing, facilities and the way the University interacts with the community at large will be scrutinized.

To get as many people as possible involved, Sacramento State has created a Strategic Plan website (www.csus.edu/universitystrategicplan) that includes options for community members to express their opinions and suggestions.

It also lists the dates of town hall forums for various stakeholder groups as well as timelines and milestones for the planning process.

“Our goal is to create a plan that shapes the mission, vision, values and strategic direction of the University so we can succeed in the years to come as we serve our students and the community,” says Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez.

The project is being coordinated by a committee of students, faculty and staff, and is in the information-gathering phase – organizing focus groups, reaching out to the community and scheduling town hall sessions. The first of the town hall forums is open to faculty and staff and will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. A second will solicit comments from students and will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. Both are in Library 11. The third town hall also will be for students. It will run from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the conference room at the American River Courtyard.

University officials anticipate having a Draft Strategic Plan ready by April.
