Each year, 2,000 California foster youth turn 18 and must leave foster care. For all too many of them, their dreams of going to college end as well. The Guardian Scholars Program wants to change that by offering a wide range of services to help foster youth successfully pursue an education.

The Guardian Scholars provide a one-stop, dedicated coaching team whose members will develop meaningful relationships with the youth while offering direction for continued academic progress and success.

Its Goals:

• To provide Guardian Scholars with financial advising and physical/emotional support that will allow them to attend to their studies and complete their degrees in a reasonable time with no or minimum debt.

• To provide Guardian Scholars with academic assistance that will enable them to develop academic competency and skills that lead to successful careers.

• To provide Guardian Scholars with social support, engaging them in the campus culture and building a community that supports their personal and professional growth.

Student Scholarships
Scholarships have a lasting impact for a Guardian Scholars student. Whether a small book stipend or a full-ride award that covers tuition and housing, scholarships truly assist students in achieving their academic aspirations that would otherwise not be realized without additional financial resources.

Emergency Fund
The Guardian Scholars Emergency Fund aids students with unforseen expenses that occur during the academic year. The Emergency Fund acts as a surrogate parent, supporting ancillary costs that can arise. In past semesters, the Fund has helped students with urgent dental work, transportation, books, food, and other miscellaneous expenses. The Fund is distributed through the discretion of the Program Director.
