Sac State receives record number of applications
Applications for fall 2011 represent the largest undergraduate applicant pool in Sacramento State history. The 29,037 applications are an increase of 832 undergraduate applications versus fall 2010.
According to the University’s Student Affairs office, fall 2010 was the next largest undergraduate applicant pool with a total of 28,205.
“Sacramento State continues to be a very attractive campus for prospective students,” says Ed Mills, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Enrollment and Student Support. “This year we also experienced a significant increase in applications from outside the region -- a testament to the success of the University’s Destination 2010 initiative.”
The University will enroll about 7,000 new undergraduate students in fall 2011.
The California State University released systemwide data last week, indicating an all-time high of 621,007 applications for fall 2011. These record increases come at a time when the system is also experiencing massive reductions in state funding.
Next year’s budget will reduce CSU state support to approximately the same level as in 1999-2000 despite the system now serving 70,000 more students. The reduction of $500 million represents a best-case scenario for the CSU as proposed cuts could be far greater if the state passes an all-cuts budget.
